1908 Watch Fob

Postby mallett65 » 06 Feb 2010, 06:32

I want to share this watch fob I found over ten years ago with my Radio Shack metal detector. I call it a watch fob since I'm not sure what else to call it. It was promoting William Taff for president. He won the election but was so bad that Teddy Roosevelt pulled his support and ran against him in 1912. That pulled the republican party apart and sent Woodrow Wilson into the White House.

That is a great find, I printed out a page with your find on it and will give it this coming monday to former Governor Taft as he is going to speak at the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Historical society meeting this monday night. Governor Taft now lives in the township and will speak about his family's political history.

Hey Bell Two that would be cool. Let me know what he says. I meet his wife once but didn't have a chance to tell her about it.

Hi Dale, I gave the copy of your find to Governor Taft he was very pleased to see it. He said they have several items of memorabilia of his great grandfather including another type of fob but he said he has never seen one like this before. He gave an interesting program including many pictures of his family and many inside stories. Governor Taft has a great sense of humor and told several deprcating stories including one where he was at a dinner at the White House when Johnson was president, they were having a dance and he waited until they played a slow song to ask Linda Byrd to dance and as soon as they started to dance the band switched to the Charleston and he was stuck since he had no idea how to do it!

Thanks for showing it to him. Interesting he had never seen one like it. Make me wonder how rare it is.
